Tracey Melton's Tree Ring Paintings & Other Lovely Layers

Tracey Melton's Tree Ring Paintings are made from dead red and white Elm trees and acrylic paint, adding a colorful twist to the natural beauty of the wood.

"My work is a expression of what I sees while hiking and camping in the Appalachian Mountains. It is based on how nature develops, grows, dies, then starts again."

Interesting post! I was drawn to the tree ring paintings at first, but kind of have mixed feelings about them now that I've seen them closer. While I love the color palette she uses, it seems to contrast highly with the wood it's painted on. I guess to me it seems so fluorescent and unnatural compared to the natural base. It could just be my preference, though - it's still a fascinating (and probably inexpensive!) choice of medium to paint on.

I really love the three trees together in the first photo - there is just something about them that draws your attention and focus..
