The more educated one knows onesself to be, and the more success one has enjoyed in the past, the higher one's confidence in his or her own ideas, and the better at (and more vehement about) defending those ideas one is. Also, the more educated and confident one is, the less receptive to unfamiliar or alternative ideas one becomes, and instead all the more blindly adherent to only confirmatory evidence.
