Description
Stanley Gibbons Colour Chart from the 1930s, colour #91 Note: my 1930 copy of the Dictionary of Color by Maerz and Paul states that Marone or Marrone is Italian for "Spanish Chestnut". The color has been in use since the 1500s. "Maroon" didn't come around until 1789.
