Thank you!
Actually - I was searching for an article which mentioned something I had read years ago...
The links I added below seem to only mention the recent stories...
What I had read - and I don't know if it true at all, is that:
Marcel Duchamp or somebody famous in the Dadaist movement had started throwing shoes... like an anti war symbol?
I think it does kinda fit the movement.
Has anybody heard of something like this?
I've heard it was originally related to drugs. If a house had a pair of shoes hanging over it, drugs were available there. I'm not 100% sure though.
Now it's because a cultural symbol without much meaning, I believe.
I didn't know that Marcel Duchamp is supposed to have instigated this - but I can tell you that you see the shoes over the wires all throughout the suburbs of Sydney :P There is an urban myth that if you see shoes over the wires like this - then close by you can buy drugs. That's definitely a myth as far as I know!
Yeah - that's seems to be... urban legend! =P
If so, is it supposed to be those ripped off their client?
You see them also In Europe - it used to be fairly rare but now you see them much more often.
I think this information (from here) is very relevant:
"Tucson Electric Power officials added that in any given week, 5 to 10 pairs of sneakers are removed from power lines all over the city of Tucson: "The highest periods of activity seem to be after school lets out for the summer break," as well as holidays."
I think most won't throw the shoes they're wearing - must be either class sports shoes or ...someone else's.
BTW, there must be SOMEONE HERE that did this! No? Anyone?
