Color Inspiration in Animation: Vibrant Video Game Characters

Color Inspiration in Animation: Vibrant Video Game Characters

From the early days of Atari and Nintendo Super Mario Bros, to the modern likes of Halo and more, video games have gained a fan following beyond near pastime enjoyment. From interactive online gaming, where players can literally play against one another onscreen, while living oceans apart, to myriad other modern innovations, video games have come a long way since day one.

Yet one thing has remained the same: the colorful clad characters within these imaginary worlds of wonder. Gathered here is an homage to some of our favorite oldie but goodie video game players, and their wonderful rainbow wardrobes. Pictures of each, as well as the palettes they've inspired can be seen below, and we'd love to see your own additions as well, Colourlovers!

Color Inspiration in Food: Oodles of Pretty Pasta Noodles

Color Inspiration in Food: Oodles of Pretty Pasta Noodles

When one mentions "pasta," the minds of the majority of diners the world over immediately meander toward visions of Italy, with red and white wine sauces swathing fresh made strands of spaghetti and the like amid an authentic Italian cucina. However, you might be surprised to hear that while most think of pasta as having Italian roots, it's more than likely that the doughy noodles can actually be traced back to a beginning in ancient Asia.

More specifically, evidence of these whispered beliefs are somewhat confirmed in the case of some historical retellings, like that of the famous explorer Marco Polo, who brought the fare to Italy following his discovery of an Asian breadfruit tree that produced barley-like flour/meal--all of which he documented in his 13th century book, "The Travels of Marco Polo." But regardless of where--or whom--these ringlets and stringless of deliciousness derived from, gourmands across the globe adore them. Gathered here are a few of the most colorful pastas we could find, along with the palettes they inspired. Feel free to add your own fun and fantastical foodie finds in the below comments as well, Colourlover community! We always love connecting and collaborating with you!

Color Inspiration in Laughter: Clowns Clothed in Rainbow Wear

Color Inspiration in Laughter: Clowns Clothed in Rainbow Wear

Whether it be a gleeful performance by iconic actor Donald O' Connor in Hollywood classic film Singin' in the Rain, lyrically encouraging us to "Make 'Em Laugh," or velvety voiced Cole Porter coaxing us to "Be a Clown," we all recognize the merits of mirth, and gaiety. Inspiring us to keep the chuckles coming, clowns have always been synonymous with hilarity and guffaws. So, thank you clowns, for all the laughs, and for the colorful attire you always seem to sport (we love that, too!) Gathered here are just a few of those psychedelic threads, along with the palettes each inspired. Feel free to jump on in with your own images and palettes of joyful rainbow clown wear, Colourlovers! We'd love to see those shades and styles!

Color Inspiration in Crafts: The Prettiest Pinwheels

Color Inspiration in Crafts: The Prettiest Pinwheels

We all know them today as pinwheels, but during the 19th century in America, the umbrella catchphrase moniker encompassing any wind-driven toy held by a running child was "whirligig." Isn't that just fun to say aloud? Try it! These whirligigs (or pinwheels, if you please) supplied endless amounts of entertainment and glee for children and adults alike, and still do today!

Collected here are some more modern wheels o' fun, filled with color and vibrant life! We've also created a kaleidoscope of palettes to coincide with each. Enjoy the read, and feel free to add your own additions in the comments section below! We'd love to see your own unique whimsical whirligigs!

Color Inspiration in the Air: Hot Air Balloons in Every Hue

Color Inspiration in the Air: Hot Air Balloons in Every Hue

The year was 1783, and the world's first air balloon "flight" was about to be completed on October 15 in France by a balloon named the "Aerostat Reveillon." Piloting the launch was French scientist Jean-Franíçois Pilí¢tre De Rozier, and while to some, the "flight," which saw the balloon basically lofting to the end of a 250-foot tether, and hovering there mid-air for roughly 15 minutes, before landing safely nearby, would seem lackluster at best nowadays, at the time, it was a revolutionary aerobatic accomplishment.

Just a mere 30 days later, De Rozier and co-pilot Marquis d'Arlandes braved alighting untethered this time, soaring unattached to a height of 500 feet, and traversing nearly 5.5 miles, to achieve the first official "free flight" made by man.

We've come a long way since that day (thank you, Wright brothers, and beyond!), and so, we are dedicating this blog to the humble hot air balloon beginnings of our world of aviation! Below are some beautifully, colorful favorites, along with the palettes they've inspired. We'd love to see your own state fair or balloon rally photo snaps and personal palettes as well, Colourlover community! Cheers, and happy flying!

Color Inspiration in Body Art: Thrilling Tattoos with Ink in Every Hue

Color Inspiration in Body Art: Thrilling Tattoos with Ink in Every Hue

Although our current generations may be under the impression that the hard rockers of the 80s and 90s first brought the art of tattooing to the scene, humans have, in fact, been marking their bodies with (at least a form of) tattoos for thousands of years.  According to facts and studies on remains uncovered by scientists at the Smithsonian, these permanent designs, which ran the gamut from being quite plain scrawls, to elaborately detailed designs, were always greatly personal in nature, and symbolized something very intimate to the wearer.

These tattoos could be amulets, status symbols, declarations of love, signs of religious beliefs, adornments, and even in some cases, forms of punishment. Today, although branding is still practiced, tattoos are mainly used for personal adornment, and have evolved to embrace a kaleidoscope of vibrant designs, and of course, our favorites, colors! Seen below are those celebrating their own unique tastes and personalities via donning tats in every shade of the rainbow, as well as the palettes they inspired. We'd love to see your own (tasteful, PG-rated!) tattoos and your palettes they inspire as well, Colourlover community! So chime in below with your unique additions in the comment sections, with a badge linking us to your palettes! We'd love to see your imaginative inspirations, too!

Color Inspiration in Fun: A Kaleidoscope of Rainbow Festivals

Color Inspiration in Fun: A Kaleidoscope of Rainbow Festivals

Do you have a favorite childhood memory of a local festival, state county fair, or school carnival that you looked forward to going to with your family and friends each year? We sure do. And with those sweet memories, come equally sweet (and delicious) recollections of all the accompanying food that so often could be found there....puffy clouds of pastel cotton candy (pinks, blues, lavenders, oh my!), funnel cakes dusted delicately with clouds of sprinkled sugar, psychedelic shades of syrupy snow cones, and so much more. The tastes are special to be sure, but those colors of these carnivals, matchless! Gathered here are some vibrant captures of super fun carnivals, festival, and fairs, with the color palettes their images inspired. We'd love to see your very own photos from real state fair and festival visits, and your shared links to your own Colourlover palettes to match! So read on, enjoy, and post away in the comment section, revealing your own unique personality (and palettes!)

Color Inspiration in Nature: Insects Infused with a Rainbow of Hues

Let's face it. When it comes to insects, most people don't like being "bugged" one bit! And although these critters often offer positive benefits, many also come with negative attributes as well, such as biting, buzzing, stinging, and in some cases, stinking! But as we always like to seek out the positives, we've gathered below some of the most beautiful-colored bugs of the world, and presented the color palettes they've inspired also. Feel free to add on your favorite insect ideas, photos, and palette creations in the comment section as well. We always love Community input, and inspiration!

Color Inspiration in Art: Fingerpainting a Fantasia of Rainbows

Color Inspiration in Art: Fingerpainting a Fantasia of Rainbows

Who remembers when getting messy was synonymous with being FUN?! We sure do, and   one of our favorite ways of really getting knee (or hands!) deep in the thick of it all was fingerpainting! Whether a simple, after school arts and crafts project to while away the afternoon or more sophisticated designs and swirls on canvas made by the bigger kid (okay, maybe us adults too), there's just something cathartic, and oh-so-joyful about dunking your fingers in a dab of rainbow paint and letting your inner artist shine, and swirl, (outside those lines!) Here are some super fun (and colorful) master finger painters, along with the color palettes their creations inspired. Feel free to jump in and post your own!
