Although our current generations may be under the impression that the hard rockers of the 80s and 90s first brought the art of tattooing to the scene, humans have, in fact, been marking their bodies with (at least a form of) tattoos for thousands of years. According to facts and studies on remains uncovered by scientists at the Smithsonian, these permanent designs, which ran the gamut from being quite plain scrawls, to elaborately detailed designs, were always greatly personal in nature, and symbolized something very intimate to the wearer.
These tattoos could be amulets, status symbols, declarations of love, signs of religious beliefs, adornments, and even in some cases, forms of punishment. Today, although branding is still practiced, tattoos are mainly used for personal adornment, and have evolved to embrace a kaleidoscope of vibrant designs, and of course, our favorites, colors! Seen below are those celebrating their own unique tastes and personalities via donning tats in every shade of the rainbow, as well as the palettes they inspired. We'd love to see your own (tasteful, PG-rated!) tattoos and your palettes they inspire as well, Colourlover community! So chime in below with your unique additions in the comment sections, with a badge linking us to your palettes! We'd love to see your imaginative inspirations, too!
