Absolutely fantastic entries! Great work everyone! The flow of commentary throughout the contest days coming from the Pixlr Design Team was exciting to see. They expressed how amazed they were with the talent we have here at COLOURlovers. I felt a glow of pride knowing we have this secret gold mine of talented people in our community.

I can't wait to showcase the final design inspirations near the end of June (coming up!) used within Pixlr Express!

Okay, okay I know you guys are chomping at the bit to see the winners! With each winner the judging panel as a whole put together some commentary on the aspects of each design.

Winner of Tuesday, Day #1:  "Loulouflor" by Anonymuse

"The soft colors, texture in the shapes and the windmill collectively make an eye-catching inspiration."

Winner of Tuesday, Day #8:  "Historic Arrest" by Heuge

"An excellent spin on stripes giving off a soft, feathery feeling. The pleasant mix of hues bleed together in to a lovely muted visual. All of which might work nicely in an overlay."

As you can see from the LOVES on each of these, none were selected by popularity (CL community vote). The judges took each day of submissions individually and considered many character traits of each piece as a whole to consider toward the design aspects of Pixlr Express. We will be showcasing the final pieces near the end of June (2015) when the COLOURlovers Expansion Pack becomes available to everyone using Pixlr! Exciting!

That's it! I hope you all enjoyed the experience of this contest and can take positive things away even if you did not win. Trust me, there were a lot of difficult decisions in choosing!

Personally, I feel that contests push me to a different level of motivation in my own skills which contributes to how I view where I am in my skill much longer after a contest is held. I notice area's where I could probably work harder or think directionally different and garner some personal advice from the designs that did win. We quite literally could have chosen over a thousand designs we loved, but in the case of contest critique, it comes down to a hard line.

Claiming Your Prize!

Grab Bag Winners: You will be receiving either a Love Note and/or an email (whatever email is associated with your COLOURlovers member account). In this message you will get links to all the Grab Bag Items we had pictured and linked here in the contest post. Messages will go out today at some point, you will be given a certain time period to make your choice (feel free to reference the original contest page to start shopping early!). Colin will be handling prize notification and placing your order/choice.

Sponsorship Winners: Today we will activate the new or upgraded Sponsorship to your COLOURlovers Member Account. If you already have a paid sponsorship active, we will simply add an additional year to your current expiration date.

Have a great day!

Congratulations to everyone!
Thanks for the contest! I really enjoyed trying to figure out which colors combinations would win.

InkyBagwell

Wonderful choices! Big congratulations to all. xox

stormbattereddragon

Congratulations to all the winners! The contest was exciting.

Are "dearloulou" and "anonymuse" the same person with two accounts? The winning pattern "loulouflor" uses a palette made by "dearloulou" and a pattern and template made by "anonymuse."

It is a lovely pattern/palette/template, but my understanding of the contest rules is that the pattern/palette/template all had to be made by the same person.

If they are two different people, then "dearloulou" deserves to be declared an equal winner since he/she made the palette.

Luna Rosa

I didn't enter the contest so I'm not down with all the details but I don't think it mattered what palette you used, so long as the template was your own.

Congratulations to all the winners and many thanks to Molly an the gang for this great competition, it has been just wonderful to witness all the creativity it has inspired:)

glindathegoodwitch

these are all fabulous...congrats to each of you.

atriarief

Fabulous works you'all! Congratulation from Indonesia! :D

huege

Wow, huege made it to the winner's circle?? That does not seem right. Is the universe imploding? Were the judges less-than-sober? Did other, more-skilled colorers not enter? Yeah, number 3. And maybe number 2. It doesn't really matter now….huege won WOOHOO!!…he's walking around in his underwear with a bouquet of flowers waving to the all that watch!! Not because he won….just because he does that every Saturday morning ;) Kalindy, put those binoculars away!

Seriously, thank you judges, and thank you to everyone that entered. It was fun.

Congrats to the winners!

johnnycakes

These patterns are so wonderful, great work all around!

Congrats to all the winners! It was a fun contest! <3

Re: Palettes + Template Validity of Winning
I appreciate your inquiry. This was brought up about mid-contest while some were concerned that they were submitting patterns that were using other's palettes.... initially the goal was to use the two pieces from your own creations, however the contest module code did not filter the palettes correctly and let anyone submit pattern designs with any palette..... To the CL Staff's defense we really did not mean for this to happen. There was no way to turn back and it would have completely complicated the matter had we tried to solve it mid-contest. It would have created confusion and worry that submissions would not get counted, etc. So we let it lay and did not make it an issue. That was our choice.

There was no solution and considering palettes can arguably not be original works of art (to the vast majority of the world) and could potentially be copycats and rights are loose with color combinations (copyrighting), we decided to roll with it.

As I hope everyone can see that the more technical part of the submission might be the pattern template. While I do congratulate the palette designer, I do not see this as an equal prize winner. That will not happen. We had a budget for eight (8) prizes and those are already handed out. The palette creator did not choose to submit this palette with their own creation and therefore it was curated and selected by the template designer as a submission. I commend the beautiful palette but please don't take away from the beautiful work submitted by the original contestant by calling,"No Fair" to the contest overall. I feel your inquiry was very pleasantly stated, however in response and answering anyone else with similar question to the validity of a winner, then read and let it be as it is.

I hope everyone can understand this and enjoy the fact that we had a great contest with not too many glitches. :) and some terrific prizes!

Thanks everyone!

** I will contact / be in touch with the palette designer. **

Little bit of a hiccup with that, read above statements :)
You could have competed for Sponsorship Loves if anything :)

I find it SO INTERESTING to see what the community "most loved" vs. what the judging panel chose! Look just how different the designs are between those two areas! Fascinating!

Was it fun/nice having a completely out of your "popular vote" control and having judges from a design department do the judging? I felt it was much smoother and added much more variance to the winning selections.

glindathegoodwitch

good to see you molly b on the forefront and out of the background.

OrigamiMei

Woot woot! Congratulations, guys. Great contest. :D

MsBunky

Congratulations to all the winners!!! I love how these contests bring creativity to a higher level. It happens each time!

Hugs to all of you!!!
MsBunky

huege

I would guess the popular vote patterns won on beauty and the others won more on potential functionality as overlays?

I did like the anonymity of the judging process, the amount of prize booty and the splitting of the two prize groups. For me the best "prize" is seeing my templates being used or enjoyed by others, so to potentially have some form of it used by Pixlr was, to me, a wonderful opportunity. The geographical limitations on potential winners meant Pixlr had less to choose from, but overall the contest was good. Nice work Molly! :)

Oh, huege, I completely missed it!!! I didn't have my binoculars out, and I missed your Saturday morning coronation walk!

Hey! It's Saturday again! Let me go did up the binoculars, and then will you promenade again? And please wear one of your sashes, too!

Thank you to everyone who sent congratulations!

Thank you, too, Molly, Colin, and the Pixlr Design Team, for having the contest, and for the great prizes. I got my Kindle Paperwhite, and it's very cool!
