Eclectic Color Roundup
Here's a roundup of the most colorful art, products, websites and such that I've come across in the last week.
Products
Super Awesome Lite-brite: luminodot
The Luminodot packs a super-dense 70x50 grid, which accommodates 3,500 light pegs on a slick HDTV-looking frame. And as shown by the appropriately hallucinogenic demo video (skeletons riding donkeys, etc), its programmable backlight animation function makes the perfect pixel-art canvas. Only available in Japan - boooo.

Art
Product Disections by Eric Boker
designboom features these colorful photos of 'product dissections' toothpaste tubes:
we have stumbled across a similar series with a slightly more morbid feel. ‘product dissections’ is a series of photographs by american artist erik boker. in the pieces, boker applies dissection techniques normally used in the science lab on specimens, to a variety of different toothpastes. the results are presented on a black background and lab tray. the dissected tubes take on the appearance of flesh, albeit multicoloured and minty.

I am interested in the notions of art as commercial product, art as artifact, and the nature of the museum, and I continue to explore our understanding of their roles, and the inherent beauty, humor, and horror that lies within them.

Furniture
‘Boxer’ Storage System by Jonas Wagell
swedish designer jonas wagell is on a bit of a roll lately. to begin with, he was named one of the top 50 young architects by wallpaper magazine. Then more recently, wagell won the 100% futures competition meaning he was given a 60m sq. exhibit space at this year’s 100% design london. at his stand, wagell will be transforming the space into a small swedish house lot with a lawn, apple tree and his prefab housing project mini house. he will also be showcasing a number of his new products including the ‘bold’ wall clock, ‘boxer’ storage system and the ‘symbiosis’ table lamp.

Rumors
Advertising in Notre Dame de Reims
and notcot is starting rumors about ads in Notre Dame:
On fascinating lore (surrounded by rumors and speculation) ~ in Notre Dame de Reims (where nearly all the kings of france have been crowned) in the stained glass windows of the south transcript… there are yellow labeled champagne bottles which we heard from someone who heard from someone that Veuve Clicquot played such a large role in the history of the region over the centuries that you even see it in the stained glass. Speculate as to whether its complete fabrication, conspiracies of the past, the first product placement, etc as you wish… i’m just showing you what we found in those windows, so you can join in on the fun too. See larger images of these wine making panels on the next page!
By the way, standing in such a large cathedral, late for the bus, trying to play the equivalent of ‘where’s waldo’ on a huge wall of stained glass is harder than expected…

a comment connected to the original post mentions this:
Um, not to burst your (champagne) bubble, but those windows are all 20th Century replacement. Notre Dame de Reims, stunning though it is, was firebombed and the facad was burnt down during World War I. It’s totally possible that those windows are a sly hommage to Veuve Cliquot, but it’s absolutely certain that they are not “ancienne.”
